Found throughout the Wichita, Sedgwick County, and surrounding areas, our sites and projects are each a unique opportunity to build something special. Each Farm site is usually classified in one of two categories (sometimes both).
1) Grow-Your-Own-Farm sites, in which private property owners, schools, churches, non-profits or other groups work with us to grow on their property. Participants receive resources, plants, seeds, education and support at no-charge. Requirements to participate include agreeing to grow using our standards and or methods and donating at least 50% of all produce back to those who are food insecure.
2) Community Farm sites are sites usually on publicly owned land, or sites that are open for public use. These sites are used for educational. training and or experimenting purposes.
We want everyone to have easy access to locally grown and nutritionally dense food, no matter income or socio-economic status. This requires use to utilize strategies that reduce as many barriers as possible.
We grow food using natural and organic methods, combining permacultures multi-layered systems, with regenerative agricultures principles and practices to create sustainable systems that grow the most flavorful and nutritionally dense food possible. We leverage nature to help us control the growing environment and reduce the need for additional labor and costs.
There is a strong connection between our health (physical and mental) and the quality of our food. This effects our ability to provide economic sustainability for our families.
In Sedgwick County, we have more than 86,000 individuals who are food insecure. That is more than 22% of the entire states population of food insecure individuals. These are our friends, neighbors, coworkers, kids classmates, college students and senior population.
With more than 123,000 individuals already growing gardens and growing your own food being one of the most popular social media topics, we aim to create a movement of new and existing growers to meet the needs of our community.
